Ørkenkjøtt started out in Notodden, Telemark in 2005 and have played about a hundred concerts throughout Norway since. A year ago, the band signed with Nordic Records and through the past year the band has taken the step out of the underground, and is now referred to as the Norwegian rock's future. Debut album «Ønskediktet» was released 23rd of March and the same day went straight into the national charts. Both CD and vinyl reached # 1 on Platekompaniet bestseller list, the latter held the top spot for 3 weeks. The album is a Norwegian-sung concept album, produced by the world-famous Black Metal pioneer Ihsahn from Emperor and Heidi / Starofash, representing Mnemosyne Production. The album defined the band's own genre; Ørkenrock. Their debut was recently bought in by the Norwegian Culture Council. Ørkenkjøtt was the first metal band ever that was presented to the prince and princess of Norway in a public context, when the band in 2008 was elected to represent Telemark on the royal visit in the county. After the concert Ørkenkjøtt got royale thumbs up in the media by couple.
