The Dogs D'Amour had struggled for several years before finally landing their big break with their second album, 1988?s In The Dynamite Jet Saloon. Following the eight-track acoustic EP A Graveyard of Empty Bottles, the band returned to the studio to commence work on their third full-length album, Errol Flynn. Their second highest charting release, Errol Flynn (re-titled King of the Thieves in the United States) continued to mix alcohol-fuelled blues with songs of heartbreak, foreshadowing the subsequent success of fellow English rockers The Quireboys. Frontman Tyla's dry humour and self-reflective wit are evident from the opening track, appropriately titled Drunk Like Me, in which he admits how dumbfounded he is that anyone could love someone in his state; "I don't seem to have much luck with the girls these days. I think they find it hard to get acostumed to my ways."
