Well, here we are again in our series of pre-1960's CLASSIC music....you've had Elvis, Bill Haley and Martin Denny.....well, here is a newie....in the style of our Phantom Jukebox series.....27, yep, 27 CHART BUSTING slabs of Doo-Wop.....from Tin Pan Alley wannabes to blues/gospel moans from the void to the founding classics of Rock'n'Roll..... The early 1950s was an exciting time in the history of African American music. According to the history books, rock 'n' roll had not yet been invented, so the music continued to flourish in all but name, leading up to the big bang at mid decade. One of the hottest sparks to fuel the rock 'n' roll fire was vocal group harmony, which had become popular in the 1930s and 1940s with groups such as the Ink Spots and the Mills Brothers and by the early 1950s had been boosted by the popularity of more modern acts like The Orioles and The Ravens. This, the second of two volumes, spotlights the Billboard R&B chart hits of the vocal harmony groups that had the greatest influence on the burgeoning rock 'n' roll scene, including important names like The Drifters, The Midnighters and The Five Keys. The sound of the city...the sound which fills Mean Streets, Goodfellas, and The Sopranos....as soon as you put this CD on.....you'll swear you know them all...and maybe you do!
