Panal (CD)
Panal is one of the lost gems of Chilean rock history. They recorded a unique LP in 1973, mixing latin-fusion-psychedelic-rock with American folk songs, with a fuzz-driven guitar and Hammond organ a la "Santana" or "Weather Report", and a strong base of bass plus percussion and drums. The band members were session musicians, plus the guitar player and singer of "Aguaturbia". The production consists of a collection of typical South American traditional songs, arranged with a tremendous strong rhythm with many instrumental parts. Panal recorded the LP a few months before the revolution in September 1973, so they chose the worst time to try to be "alive" in the rock marketing, and also the album was censured because the song "Somos americanos" (We are Americans) has lyrics that the military "boys" did not like. The words of the songs are in Spanish and the booklet includes all the lyrics and the story of the band. Lets listen to this curious and exciting experiment of Latin-rock made in Chile, a necessary rescue offered to the world rockers with total justice from an age when "rock" still "rolled".
