Death In Detroit (CD)
One of two Christian Death re-mix albums that appeared in the mid-'90s (the other is Death Mix), Death in Detroit filters Rozz Williams' long-running Christian Death project through the sensibilities of other, like-minded goth, industrial types, including Spahn Ranch, Die Krupps, and Leæther Strip. Boasting four equally uninspired mixes of Christian Death's disappointing cover of Bowie's classic "Panic in Detroit," Death in Detroit is far from an essential purchase, but still has enough strong points to merit interest from the band's legion of black-clad fans. Leæther Strip mixes another Christian Death cover, this time the Velvet Underground's "Venus in Furs," with far better results that heightens the proto-goth underpinnings of the Velvet's version. The originals, including "Figurative Theater," "Spiritual Cramp," and "Skeleton Kiss," all succeed in updating Christian Death for the '90s goth-club set, but don't improve on other versions
