The story Rumpelstiltskin is following a fairy-tale by German middle age authors Gebrüder Grimm: A gnomus named Rumpelstiltskin helps a girl to make gold out of straw for the price of her firstborn child, unless she guesses his name. At last she finds out, and the story turns towards a happy end. In 1992, the US based Rabbit Ear label released the tale in their audio novel series for children. The story was told by famous actor Kathleen Turner and the accompanying music was composed and performed by Tangerine Dream exclusively for this recording. During the 22 minute story the material is used as background and intermediate music, and additionally the album features all seven compositions as instrumental tracks.
