The band with the little appetising name Rotzkotz belongs to the German Punk New Wave bands of the first hour and smoothed the way for the seminal new Hannover Rock scene. Being enthusiastic by the uncomplicated and fast Rock of the 'Ramones', 'Stooges' and the former 'Kinks' Horst Illing and A.E. Wehmer founded the band Rotzkotz in 1976. The first gigs were more on bizarre subversive private parties in the area of Hanover. On its odyssey through youth centres and village hovels Rotzkotz was accompanied by an as well fancy as enthusiastic crowd of neoconformists and freaks. Very soon some of them clutched at instruments themselves and formed bands. They helped to make for the dispersal of new sounds in the capital of Lower Saxony. Within two days it was extremely difficult to produce a record as a Punk band. So it took till spring 1979 till the first album 'Much Funny' could be recorded. This was also due to the help of the English pop band 'The Rivets'. Its friends carried on an overly cheep recording studio in London (Home County Herne Bay Kent). After ample toing and froing and the usual peevings twelve songs of the record were cut in the 4-track-recording studio Kent. There was hardly any mastering. Those days it was 300,- DM, but without master tape because there was no money for that. The band was bankrupt, like always. But Graham, the audio engineer gave the band a ten years old magnetic tape which became the master tape, but soon later it dissolved into 1000 piece parts (which is from a present-day perspective very woefully). Very well then. Out came the first self produced German Punk record 'Much Funny', a fantastic vital Rotzkotz record with uncomplicated aggressive energy loaded Rock and Roll. 12 songs with good riffs and fast raw beats, which became a contemporary historical document of German Rock culture. We included 3 Bonustracks, never released before!
