Born Again : The Complete Recordigs 1967 - 72 = 5 CD Set = (CD)
The first ever complete anthology of the splinter group of the original Procol Harum lineup. Includes all five of the band's albums, plus singles, out-takes and alternate versions. Just as "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" was establishing itself as the definitive summer hit of 1967, the new members of Procol Harum bitterly parted ways with guitarist Ray Royer and drummer Bobby Harrison. Royer and Harrison used their severance package from Procol to put together a new band, which they unceremoniously christened Freedom. The original Freedom lineup recorded the soundtrack for the lurid Italian arthouse film Nerosubianco (AKA Black And White) and released a series of singles that did not appear on an album before a disgruntled Harrison assembled a new power trio lineup. The new Freedom lineup recorded a second album, Freedom At Last, which was also not released in the U.K., before departing from their original psychedelic sound for a heavier, bluesier approach. After three more albums (including two for Vertigo) and tours with Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull, Harrison pulled the plug in late 1972 to front Snafu. 'Born Again: The Complete Recordings 1967-72' collects Freedom's entire body of work in a handy package that includes the band's five albums as well as stand-alone singles, alternate versions and out-takes. The package is housed in an elegant clamshell box and includes miniature facsimile covers of all five albums, as well as numerous rare photos and a new 5000-word essay on the band.
