Like his first solo album, "Takin' So Long" continues his spirited jazz influenced sound, with the same producer and very talented musicians. But, these songs seem a bit more personal, even more heartfelt, reflecting passion for his music, tempered with more than a little frustration. "You Might Never Know" starts the album off with a lively testament to life, followed by a tender and compelling "Wouldn't You Love To Be There". As with his first album, each song is memorable, a contribution that builds through the last track. All that remains is the inevitable question of what could have been. Sadly, we'll never know. "Takin' So Long" is more than a worthy follow-up to "Alzo". It continues a story that ends far too abruptly. And, that's a tragedy that record company walls cannot hide.
